Casting Lear

Andrea Jimenez | 2024

Casting Lear

Casting Lear is a co-direction between Ursula Martinez and Andrea Jimenez. It draws on Shakespeare’s King Lear to explore the relationship between Andrea and her father as well as patriarchal figures in general, including theatre’s very own William Shakespeare. Each night a different actor, with no prior rehearsal or knowledge of the show, joins Andrea on stage to play King, father and self.

It is an elaborately engineered conceit that blurs the boundaries between fiction and reality, constructed theatre and unrehearsed authenticity. The result is a fascinating and uniquely moving piece of theatre that has received a standing ovation for every performance. In 2025 it received the highest accolade in the Spanish Theatre industry; a Premio Max for Best Show.

Casting Lear asombra y conmueve, es magnifica, brilliante y cautivadora.

Casting Lear astounds and moves, it is magnificent, brilliant and captivating.
